Previous day levels with retracement to the gap The strategy operates long and short on 5‑minute candles within the 09:40–15:30 ET window, Monday through Friday. Training period It generated numerous trades but showed consistent losses. The profit factor was very low, indicating that losses far outweighed gains. Capital drawdown was significant, with a substantial maximum retracement. The win rate was very low, reflecting that most trades were losing. Out‑of‑sample period Performance improved markedly compared to training: the profit factor approached neutrality, total losses were minimal, and the maximum retracement dropped dramatically. The win rate increased, although it remained low. However, the strategy continued to generate net losses, albeit very small in magnitude. Verdict Although out‑of‑sample behaviour was substantially better, the strategy remains losing in both periods. It does not meet the required profitability criteria. Verdict: rejected, was not profitable in training or out‑of‑sample. Exits: take profit at a price level, stop‑loss at a price level, short side: take profit at a price level and stop‑loss at a price level; automatic close at the end of the session if still open; maximum one trade per day. Net results include a 0.10% cost per trade. Past results do not guarantee future results.

Strategy tested
In the one‑hour time frame, it marks the previous day’s high and low. Then it switches to the 5‑minute time frame and waits for the price to break this liquidity in any direction: if it breaks upwards, it looks for short trades; if it breaks downwards, it looks for long trades. Once the direction is identified, it waits for a structure break in the opposite direction to the initial break (if it broke downwards, it waits for a structure break upwards), ensuring that this structure break occurs above the liquidity of the previous day’s high. Then it waits for the price to enter a Fair Value Gap. Place the stop‑loss below recent lows. Take profit at the previous day’s high that you marked in step 1.
What we assumed
- The break of the level is accepted if it occurred in any of the last 24 candles, before the return to the gap.
- The return to the gap is accepted in any of the 12 candles following its formation (default window).
- Trading window 09:40‑15:30 ET, Monday through Friday: the system calculates it so that the levels and price zones do not use candles from the previous session (only reference sizes, such as an average range, can read it).
- Both directions are modeled: the opposite (short) uses the same rules with mirrored levels. The engine takes at most one trade per day, the first signal of either side.
- OMITTED: ‘Wait for a structure break in the direction of the trade (upwards for longs) after the liquidity break’ — does not correspond to any construction the system can express as ‘confirmation’.
- OMITTED: the video says ‘On the day, something specific happens at market open and close.’, but that rule was not retained in the interpretation.
- OMITTED: the video says ‘Step 2 change from the one‑hour time frame to the 5‑minute’’, but that rule was not retained in the interpretation.
