VWAP Bounce with Rejection Candle The strategy goes long on SPY with 5‑minute candles, looking for bullish bounces off the VWAP during the regular session. During the training period, the strategy produced consistent losses with a very low profit factor. Only a small fraction of trades were winning, and the average losses far exceeded the gains. The drawdown reflected the accumulated deterioration. In the out‑of‑sample period, the performance was similar: the win rate improved slightly, but losses continued to dominate. The profit factor remained very low, indicating that the system does not generate a positive edge. Verdict: rejected. The strategy loses money in both periods. There is no evidence of profitability or consistency across windows. Verdict: rejected, it was not profitable in training or out‑of‑sample. Exits: take profit at a price level, stop‑loss at a price level, strategy exit condition; automatic close at the end of the session if still open; maximum one trade per day. Net results with a 0.10% cost per trade. Past results do not guarantee future results.

VWAP Bounce / Rejection Timeframes: 1 min or 5 min Symbols: Highly liquid stocks with high volume (AAPL, MSFT, AMD, META) Entry: Price touches VWAP and bounces with a rejection candle + volume. Exit: Target at the next structural level or when it moves X ATRs away from the VWAP. Stop just on the other side of the VWAP.
What we assumed
- Requested 1 min or 5 min; 5m was chosen (default value).
- The idea lists several example symbols (AAPL, MSFT, AMD, META) without specifying one; no symbol is fixed and the default is used.
- Only the LONG side (bullish bounce on the VWAP) is modeled. OMITTED: the SHORT side (bearish rejection from above the VWAP).
- ‘Touches the VWAP and bounces’ = the candle’s low reaches or falls below the VWAP and the close remains above the VWAP.
- ‘Rejection candle’ = hammer or bullish engulfing; the specific pattern was chosen by me.
- ‘Volume’ = relative volume (period 10) greater than 1.5; the threshold 1.5 and the period are my assumptions.
- Target at the ‘next structural level’ = the previous high of the last 10 candles (offset(1, highest of 10 bars)), default for a swing. If the close at entry is already above that level, that bar does not trade.
- ‘When it moves X ATRs away from the VWAP’ = exit condition: close greater than VWAP + 2 × ATR(14). X=2 is my assumption.
- Stop ‘just on the other side of the VWAP’ = fixed level at VWAP minus 0.1 × ATR(14), evaluated on the entry bar. The 0.1 ATR buffer is my assumption.
- Chosen hourly window: 10:45‑15:30 ET, Monday‑Friday, so that the ATR(14) and the 11‑bar window do not use data from the previous session.
