ORB 15 min with volume (5m) This strategy operates long and short on SPY on 5‑minute candles. It looks for breakouts of the opening range (09:30–09:45 ET) with volume above the average of the previous 10 candles, entering between 09:45 and 15:30 ET. During the training period, the strategy generated trades regularly but accumulated consistent losses. The behaviour remained the same in the out‑of‑sample period: it continued trading with a similar frequency, but the losses deepened. The consistency between the two periods suggests that the approach does not capture a profitable pattern under the conditions it was designed for. The rejection verdict indicates that the strategy does not generate profits in either period. Verdict: rejected, was not profitable in training or out‑of‑sample. Exits: take profit at a price level, stop‑loss at a price level, close at 15:45 ET, short side: take profit at a price level and stop‑loss at a price level; automatic close at session end if still open; at most one trade per day. Net results with a 0.10% per‑trade cost. Past results do not guarantee future results.

Opening Range Breakout (15 min) - Timeframe: 5 minutes - Entry: After the first 15 minutes of the session, mark the High and Low of that range. Buy if the price closes above the High of the OR with volume > average of the last 10 candles. Sell if it closes below the Low of the OR with volume > average. - Stop Loss: Opposite extreme of the Opening Range. - Exit: - Target 1: 1.5R - Target 2: 2.5R - Or close at 15:45 ET if not reached.
What we assumed
- The Opening Range is defined as 09:30-09:45 ET (hourly window), and entries can only start from 09:45.
- Both directions are modelled: buying is the main side and selling is the 'opposite' side with mirror conditions. The engine takes at most one trade per day, the first signal of either side.
- The 'average of the last 10 candles' of volume is calculated over the 10 candles prior to the current one (offset 1 of the aggregate mean), to compare the breakout candle’s volume with its recent history.
- Entry window not indicated in the idea: 09:45 to 15:30 ET, Monday to Friday.
- Stop Loss: opposite extreme of the Opening Range, as a fixed level (minimum of OR for buys, maximum of OR for sells).
- Only one target exists: Target 1 of 1.5R (risk multiple). OMITTED: Target 2 of 2.5R and partial exit.
- 'Closes above/below' is interpreted as the operator > / < on the candle close.
- If the position remains open, it closes at 15:45 ET (at the close of the candle that ends at that time).
- The text does not name the asset: it was tested on SPY.
