VWAP Bounce with Rejection (Long) This strategy goes long on SPY during the regular session, looking for entries between 10:15 and 15:30 ET on 5‑minute candles when the price touches the VWAP from above with a rejection candle that has a long lower wick and high volume. During the training period, the strategy generated trades with consistency, but produced significant net losses. The performance remained similar in the out‑of‑sample period: trades continued to execute with comparable frequency, but the negative results persisted. The win rate was low in both periods, and the profit factor close to 0.34 in both windows indicates that losses far outweighed gains. The verdict is rejected because the strategy does not generate profitability in either training or out‑of‑sample. Verdict: rejected, not profitable in training or out‑of‑sample. Exits: take profit 0.225%, stop‑loss 0.15%, strategy exit condition; automatic close at the end of the session if still open; maximum one trade per day. Net results include a 0.10% per trade cost. Past results do not guarantee future results.

Strategy tested
VWAP Bounce (trend direction) - Timeframe: 5 minutes - Long entry: price above VWAP + touches VWAP + rejection candle (lower wick ≥ 50% of candle range) + volume above average. - Short entry: mirror (price below VWAP + rejection with upper wick). - Stop Loss: 0.1‑0.15% on the other side of VWAP or below/above the rejection candle. - Exit: 1.5R or when price moves 1 ATR away from VWAP in the opposite direction.
What we assumed
- Only the LONG side was modeled; the short side (mirror with upper wick) was OMITTED because only one direction per strategy is modeled.
- 'Price above VWAP' was implemented as close > VWAP, and 'touches VWAP' as candle low <= VWAP in the same candle.
- Rejection candle: lower wick (min(open, close) – low) ≥ 50% of the candle range (high – low) of the current candle.
- 'Volume above average': current volume is greater than the average volume of the last 10 candles (default value chosen by me).
- Hourly window chosen (not indicated in the idea): Monday to Friday from 10:15 to 15:30 ET, so that the 10‑candle volume average does not use data from the previous session.
- Additional exit: close < VWAP – 1 ATR(14), interpreting 'price moves 1 ATR away from VWAP in the opposite direction' for a long position.
- The engine closes positions at the end of the session and allows a maximum of one trade per day.
- The text does not name the asset: it was tested on SPY.
