Backtest analysis: EMA 9/20 Cross + VWAP (Long) The strategy trades long on SPY with 5‑minute candles, entering when EMA(9) crosses above EMA(20), the price is above VWAP, and volume rises compared to the previous candle. Trades are executed between 10:25 and 15:30 ET, with a maximum of one trade per day. In the training period, the strategy generated many trades but showed consistent losses, with a very low profit factor. Performance deteriorated significantly out of sample: win rate fell, losses deepened, and the profit factor dropped dramatically. Although the maximum drawdown was lower out of sample, this simply reflects less capital exposed, not an improvement in the underlying logic. The strategy does not demonstrate an operating advantage in either period. Results indicate that entry conditions do not generate consistently profitable trades. Verdict: rejected, not profitable in training or out of sample. Exits: take profit at a price level, stop‑loss at a price level, strategy exit condition; automatic close at the end of the session if still open; at most one trade per day. Net results assume a 0.10% cost per trade. Past results do not guarantee future results.

Strategy tested
EMA 9/20 Cross + VWAP - **Timeframe:** 5 minutes - **Long entry:** EMA 9 crosses above EMA 20 + price above VWAP + increasing volume. - **Short entry:** Bearish cross + price below VWAP. - **Stop Loss:** Below the last swing low (or high). - **Exit:** Opposite EMA cross or 2R.
What we assumed
- Only the LONG side was modeled. OMITTED: short entry (bearish cross + price below VWAP), because the strategy allows both directions and only one can be modeled.
- An upward EMA cross was used because the idea literally says 'crosses'.
- 'Increasing volume' was interpreted as the current candle’s volume being greater than the previous candle’s.
- The 'last swing low' was approximated by the low of the 10 prior candles (default value), as a level stop fixed at the entry candle.
- The 2R target is calculated as 2 times the distance between entry and level stop.
- Exit by 'opposite EMA cross' was implemented as EMA 9 crossing below EMA 20. The position closes at the session end by default of the engine.
- Operation window chosen when not specified: Monday to Friday 10:25 to 15:30 ET, so the 10‑candle swing does not use data from the previous day.
- The text does not specify timeframe: 5‑minute candles were used.
- The text does not name the asset: tested on SPY.
